Land of Promise I

Land of Promise I

This first installment in Cor Mundi Chamber Choir‘s two-part Land of Promise series explores the enduring human longing for home, belonging, and hope. Through centuries of American sacred song—from early New England psalmody and Sacred Harp hymns to Spirituals and concert works—the program traces how communities rooted in particular places gave voice to life’s deepest questions. Music by William Billings, Amy Beach, and others illuminates themes of mortality, perseverance, faith, and the promise of something beyond the horizon. Spanning the nation’s earliest years through the turn of the twentieth century, Land of Promise I reveals the power of song to sustain the human spirit.
